{Homesteading...}

...it is our dream as a family. We are actively dreaming and moving forward toward a life of simplicity and self-sustenance. We can't wait to grow and raise all (or most) of our own food...teaching our children the importance of environmental stewardship and taking care of what we have been given. It makes me all giddy just thinking about it.

In the meantime, we are blessed to be part of an awesome herdshare, where we get all of our milk, cream, butter, eggs, and honey. I have even started making our own cheese from the milk...SO COOL!

Well, last week, we had the pleasure of visiting our cows and chickens...and the newest calf - Ava! The kids had a blast checking everything out...almost as much as mommy!
Meet Ava - 1 week old!

I think this is Pet...in case you are wondering, yes, her nose really IS that close to my camera...they are such friendly girls!

She loves to be petted...hmmm...wonder if that is where her name came from?

And, finally, here are a few of the beauties that supply us with our eggs...aren't they gorgeous?!
